We are going to leave after I get off work on Friday, December 21st.
Matt wants to stop and camp overnight at different camp grounds along the way. I, however, after being in a car for 25 hours with one VERY gassy smelly dog, would like to sleep in a Hotel and be able to shower!
I’m looking forward to getting out of California and taking a road trip. I LOVE road trips. Especially if it’s to a place I have never been before. I’m pretty sure about 5-6 hours into the drive to Texas, Im really going to wish we took a plane.
We are getting there by taking Hwy 99 to Bakersfield then cutting over towards Mojave Dessert in which we will then catch a few more highways which get us into Arizona, New Mexico and then into Texas… When I think about this route, I can’t help but think of the scenery I will have to look at for over half of the drive…
Along this long trip, I wanted to plan some fun stops that we could do with a dog. I was looking for like the biggest ball of twine… or maybe an offbeat tourist attraction and the only thing I have found so far is the Grand Canyon! That alone is very big and im very excited to visit, but c’mon… I’m looking for eccentric…like a 2 story outhouse?? Which just so happens to be in Arkansas…which is not on our planned route TO Texas from California……
The Grand Canyon will be fun… someone at work told me that that built a glass porch extending over the edge and you walk out on it and can see all the way to the ground. Makes my heart skip a beat just thinking about it, but hey, you only live once! Might be a good place to die =) bottom of the Grand Canyon.
But besides the very long drive with a gassy dog…and husband, I think it will be fun.
To bad I couldn’t scrapbook while on the road. I could actually get a lot done.
On the trip back, I wanted to come home a different way and come up through Oklahoma to Kansas to Colorado to Nevada and then into California… but then I remember that we will be traveling home at the end of December which just so happens to be the snowy season for just about ALL of those states. I would rather drive back through the flat dessert with a gassy husband and gassy dog for 25 hours than be stuck on a snowy road somewhere and forced to CAMP outside in the middle of December in Colorado.
Umm… No Thank you.
