The second thing we did was rip out all of the purplish tinted carpet that was in the living room and our bedroom.
Underneath, we found beautiful hardwood floors! The living room floor was perfect. They looked like no one had ever set foot on them before. When we got to our bedroom, they weren’t so pretty, but still livable.
We attempted to then take out the carpet in the spare room, but when we looked at how the floor was under the carpet, we decided that the purplish tinted carpet wasn’t so bad.
Well with the weather turning ugly, it means that it’s time to start inside improvements.
This weekend Matt decided to tackle the ugly spare room floors.
After tearing out the carpet, we discovered a few holes that had been very poorly patched.
We then went around with goof-off and got all the paint spills off.
The dogs were good about staying out of the room, except when Baxter would drop his ball in the middle of the floor which then gave him an excuse to come in and see what was going on…Which then gave Matt an excuse to tell him that if “He doesn’t knock it off, he will be putting him in the trash pile along with his ball and the rusty old carpet tack strips” How can you not love this little face though!
Starting at 730am on Sunday, Matt did his first trip to Lowes to rent a floor sander. After 5 more trips there, and ¼ of a gas tank gone, he finally decided to call it quits.
It looks a ton better than when we started. I think it just depends on the look your going for.
I kind of like it… the floor looks old, beat up and will eventually go great with a cowboy nursery I want to have someday when I’m “with child”
As for now, since our budget doesn’t have room for a professional to come out and refinish it, it will just remain an old rustic floor with a big rug in the middle.
