Stockpile sickness

A few days ago, Jaime told me about this thing she heard about on her Mommy blogs and Boards that she reads. It’s called The Grocery Game and it involves saving lots of money!! And being as cheap as I am, I was very interested.

I went to the website to learn a more about it. It appears that you sign-up and you can see what grocery stores have coupons in the paper and combined with different deals the store may be having, you can get items next to nothing or even FREE. Free happens to be one of my favorite things. Like today, the radio station I was listening to said “come to this location for free Go Girls… I turned around and was there within 5 mins… my reward…4 FREE Go GIRLS! Yes, 4!!

So back to The Grocery Game. I started reading and it sounds pretty cool. Since I have some time on my hand I think I will take a shot at saving some money. I started reading these posts and threads some of these ladies were writing and although I am all about saving money because I must have grown up in the depression in a past life, I think they may have a screw loose… I think it has become more than a game and has progressed into a sickness. A sickness I am jealous of. If I has as much food and surplus as them, I would never shop again

Take this lady for instance. When you see her “stock pile” it will make you brain boggle and the sad thing is... I dont think she is the worst one. There are many others. Honestly, I don’t think the grocery store has this much stuff! It will take them years to use it all up and yet she still buys??!! I want to ask her…”WHEN DO YOU STOP!” I understand that it is good to stockpile in case of a natural disaster or possibly a food shortage but c’mon…how much Lysol counter cleaner are you really going to need in a hurricane? Really…all 40 bottles? Then again, If I had room for this amount of stuff, I would probably do the same.

All in all though, from what I read, these ladies with big families only spend 50-60$ a week on groceries and that’s mainly on milk and small stuff. They have an estimated saving of 60% each year… WOW!! So I think I’ll give it a shot. Although don’t count on me getting a huge 3 ring binder with dividers just to organize the coupons!
