What I’ve been up to…

Having another baby sure makes you busy… long gone are the days I could sit and blog during the 3 hour naptime window I had. One day we will get there again, but I am sure by that time Cohen will think he is done taking naps. Oh how I miss those 3 hour blocks of quietness…but the exchange is an adorable little boy, so it’s worth it.

I have been redoing lots of furniture lately and it’s fun! Mainly dressers. I can’t seem to pass them up at yard sales and I am getting quite a collection.

The first one I did was for Cohen’s room. I came across it at a yard sale. I called my friend who was looking for one but since she couldn’t get there in time and didn’t know if she wanted it for sure, I snagged it.  I know, great friend I am. You snooze you lose though! (she ended up find one and I helped her redo it)

I paid $60 for it.  All real wood.

All primed and ready for paint

A coat of bronze on the handles and 4 coats of candy apple red spray paint with a coat of glaze and here it is. So pretty and bold and works great in Cohen’s new big boy room.

I ran across this piece at a yard sale for $5. I couldn’t pass it up. I didn’t know exactly where I was going to put it but I still needed it.

I pulled the ugly veneer off of it and gave it a coat of primer and a few coats of white.

Here it is in the guest room/craft room

Here is the others half of the room with another piece of furniture I redid.

It’s an armoire and it was free! It came from Grandma’s house originally.  I had help sending it and then hand painted a few coats of white onto it. This was before I knew how much easier spray painting was.

I painted chalk bpard paint on the inside and it houses all of my scrapbook stuff. I love this piece.

Next I helped my friend, Jessica, do a dresser when I went down to her house to visit.

She scored her dresser for $40. It was plywood and veneer and some areas were fraying but once it was painted you couldn’t really tell.

The spray paint on this dresser is Valspars Tropical Oasis.

And the dresser that inspired Jessica was this one.

This is my friends dresser she got after I stole the one I wanted her to get.

We redid this piece in the hot summer sun. We were pretty pooped but I am sure Danielle was even more tired being 8 months pregnant and sitting in the heat.

We did a coat of primer, 4 coats of spray paint, a coat of black glaze and then a seal over it all. (I am waiting for photos of the dresser with the hardware. It looks so good in her soon to be daughters room)

My next project is waiting in the garage for me. It’s a real wood dresser I scored for $40 at a church parking lot sale.

Husband hates the look of it. He likes clean straight lines. So I think in order to bring it into the house I will have to put it in the scrapbook room. Maybe it will replace my current dresser that houses all my paper. I am thinking that the white piece I did a month ago will probably get the boot to make room for it. After photos to come soon!
