Holiday Sales Make Me...Break the Law

I cannot wait for Christmas.
Last year we moved into our in late November which gave us just enough time to decorate and spend our first Christmas as a married couple, in our cute new home.

About a month ago I was in Michaels Craft store and they were pulling out all of the Halloween and Christmas stuff. As I saw this, I thought to my self, “You have got to be kidding! It’s only JULY!!” then I thought about how every year, Christmas come just a little bit earlier. Songs on the radio start coming on in the beginning of November and people start putting out Christmas lights after Halloween! Before we know it, we’ll be cutting down Christmas trees on Labor day weekend.

Well as much as I think that Christmas should wait until it actually starts getting COLD, I couldn’t help myself when I saw the Michaels Ad this week. All of there Christmas stuff was 40-50% off. It also didn’t help that I just received the new holiday Pottery Barn catalogue with beautiful holiday center pieces placed on tables and all of the different rooms they had set up that that reminded me of how much fun decorating for the holidays is!
Because of this magazine, I have made a decision, one that Matt will probably not like, but hopefully it will grow on him one day (or after many years of dealing with it)
As of this year, I am going to start decking out our WHOLE house for the holidays. I have even started do a little browsing for certain items like Holiday/Seasonal shower curtain and bath rugs, dishes, pillows, bedding, towels, décor…. And anything else that makes you think of the holidays when you see it.

I do not like cheesy Christmas décor though. That’s why I am having a hard time finding a shower curtain, bath rugs, dishes, pillows, bedding, towels and décor that I like, and that I know matt would approve of. I like more of the neutral colors. More tans and greens and browns. The only shower curtains I have found are normally bright blue with a snowman on it, or bright red poinsettias… So Im thinking that Im going to have to find fabric that I like and just make the one I want. I am also not so crazy about Christmas print stuff. I think I might decorate more in an Autumn theme, like oak leaves and acorns and pine cones. That way this theme works for a long time, from October-December and then I can just accent with Christmas prints and ornaments around Christmas time to give more of a Christmas feeling.

I just love the way the house feels when it’s decorated for the holidays. It just seems happy and warm and cozy… makes me want to snuggle up on the couch with Baxter and a blanket and watch an Everybody loves Raymond rerun episodes while eating a bowl of Cookies-N’ Cream Ice Cream.

So getting back to the main reason why I started this post… Yesterday while I was at work, approximately around 10:30 am, I decided to go to Michaels.com to see if they had any of the stuff on sale that I was going to need in order to recreate the Pottery Barn Center Pieces that I was not going to buy.
So when I saw that Michael’s was having a HUGE sale on all holiday items I needed, it was very hard for me to wait until 1:30 so that I could race there on my lunch.

I than made a list of everything I needed and where it was located in the store (so I could shop faster) and how much I planned on spending, which by the way, was a waste of my time because I didn’t see scrapbooking stuff was ALSO on sale…

So on my lunch, I managed to speed through a red light, which now probably has a photo of me looking scared as im pushing the pedal to the metal, In which I then had to tell myself that its just a sale and I needed to slow down and stop driving recklessly because if I get a ticket or in an accident, I will not be able to afford ANYTHING at Michaels, even if I had a 40% off coupon.

So after arriving to Michaels and finding everything I needed in order to recreate the Pottery Barn center piece, I got home and had a sense of accomplishment when I realized that I had just made the same $70.00 center piece that PB had, for only $6.50. I LOVE being cheap!!!
